Green mobility in New York City – Announcement to use approx. 1000 New Electric Vehicles

As per the latest press release, Eric Adams (Mayor of New York City) announced a $10.1 million grant for the city, the federal grant is to replace approximately 925 vehicles with electric vehicles and install new EV charging stations across the city of New York.

The decision was taken as per the administrative plans of the Mayor to lead New York City in the adoption of green energy. With federal grants of $10.1 million, an electric vehicle fleet is possible.

Mayor Adams communicated his idea, that people would rest assured that New York City vehicles are making the environment safe and contributing to making the city greener.

New York city is already ahead of its plans to moving fleet from fossil fuel-powered to electric energy powered.

US representative considered the announcement of a federal grant in electrifying the fleets, as the commitment of New York City to reduce the dependency on fossil fuel and reducing the carbon emission. It will support the environment by reducing pollution and making the government sustainable.

What are plans to procure EVs?

New York City DCAS (Department of Citywide Administrative Services) has plans to purchase the following electric vehicles with federal grants:

  • 150 Ford Pickup Trucks (F-150)
  • 360 Ford Electric Transit Vans
  • 382 Chevrolet Bolts

Apart from the above, 25 hybrid street sweepers are also to be procured.

What are the current EV circumstances in New York City?

The city of New York is already very early in achieving its 2025 goal of, replacing 4000 vehicles with EVs. Many EVs are being used currently in NYC, which are of a wide range. As per the official website of the NYC government, the city is using 850 General Motors Bolts and 200 Ford Mustangs for law enforcement purposes.

As per the DCAS Deputy Commissioner, the fleets of New York City are committed to replacing all vehicles with EVs by 2035. Certainly, with this vision, the city will be leading the world. The adoption of EVs will make New York City a better place and the people will be taking a literal breath of fresh air.
