Maruti Suzuki has joined the club and revealed the concept of eVX. eVX is a mid-sized EV SUV. This concept is designed and developed by Japan-based SMC (Suzuki Motor Corporation).
The company has revealed, eVX will be equipped with a 60 kWh of battery pack and is estimated to travel up to 550 km with a fully charged electric battery.
SMC officials also shared that, they are planning to launch eVX EV by the year 2025. The unveiling of eVX is a step to promote green energy in the automobile sector.
The carmaker also shared all the measures that the company is taking to reduce the carbon emissions from their automobile products.
SMC officials also cited their last year’s announcement, about the investment of 100 Billion Rupees for the product of fully electrically powered vehicles in India.
Unfortunately, there are no electric vehicles by Maruti Suzuki in India yet. There was hearsay about the Maruti WagonR Electric that, it had been seen on Indian roads for testing purposes. But there is no officially announced information about it.
It is assumed that Maruti will be launching its first electric car in India during the last quarter of 2023.
Maruti Suzuki automobile solutions are more in the economical price range in India. Maruti is one of those few companies, that ignited the spark of automotive in India.
Considering the high prices of EV batteries in global markets, the company is seeing the gap between Indian consumer demand and EV automobiles. Because of this, the company has a very clear stand to go with the consumer’s demands, instead of following the EV trend.
During the past annual meeting, officials shared that it will take more time for Indian consumers to switch from fossil fuel-powered vehicles to fully electric vehicles. So, the adoption of BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) will take longer than anticipated.
They also shared that, only 5% of Indian consumers prefer buying cars above 15 lakhs because of their income range, so only a few percent of them would be considering EVs as their next car.
Maruti Suzuki also stated the lack of EV infrastructure in the country.
Considering all the information, Maruti Suzuki has planned to be late to the EV party and will be following the country’s infrastructure and economic conditions.

The company is a bit conservative in its approach to electrically powered vehicles, but they know Indian consumer very well. So, it can be expected that the company will be sharing more revelations and launches in the EV segment at its own pace.
