When did Maruti Suzuki launch the first EV in India?

Unfortunately, there are no electric vehicles by Maruti Suzuki in India yet. There was hearsay about the Maruti WagonR Electric that, it had been seen on Indian roads for testing purposes. But there is no officially announced information about it.

It is assumed that Maruti will be launching its first electric car in India during the last quarter of 2023.

Why Maruti Suzuki is not participating in EV trend?

Maruti Suzuki automobile solutions are more in the economical price range in India. Maruti is one of those few companies, that ignited the spark of automotive in India.

Considering the high prices of EV batteries in global markets, the company is seeing the gap between Indian consumer demand and EV automobiles. Because of this, the company has a very clear stand to go with the consumer’s demands, instead of following the EV trend.

During the past annual meeting, officials shared that it will take more time for Indian consumers to switch from fossil fuel-powered vehicles to fully electric vehicles. So, the adoption of BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) will take longer than anticipated.

They also shared that, only 5% of Indian consumers prefer buying cars above 15 lakhs because of their income range, so only a few percent of them would be considering EVs as their next car.

Maruti Suzuki also stated the lack of EV infrastructure in the country.

Considering all the information, Maruti Suzuki has planned to be late to the EV party and will be following the country’s infrastructure and economic conditions.

What are the future plans of Maruti Suzuki in India?

Maruti Suzuki is one of those companies, that believe in the vision of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat. The company has decided to explore all spectrums of powers in an automobile. Be it CNG, Hybrid, Bio-CNG, and Electric. Maruti is committed to bringing new technologies and products to India.

As per the latest revelation of the eVX SUV electric car, the company is planning to move its focus to EVs by keeping Indian consumers in mind.
